We know curtain tracks might not seem like the most glamourous aspect of buying new curtains, but it is one of the most important. Curtain tracks are essential to hanging your new curtains and are perfect for a minimalistic look. Unsure whether curtain tracks are the right choice? Take a look at our FAQ’s.
Pencil pleat and pinch pleat curtains can be hung from either a track or pole. Tab top and eyelet curtains can only be hung from a pole. This is why pencil pleat curtains are one of the most popular styles – they can be extremely versatile. One of the reasons people may choose a curtain track over a pole is because they can look neater and more discreet – as the curtain header covers the track.
The best curtain tracks might depend on your personal preference and curtains – but generally we would recommend Swish curtain tracks. These not only look great, but they make opening and closing your curtains much easier – they can also be bent and trimmed to fit a range of windows and are so sturdy they can hold the heaviest curtains.
Made from either metal or plastic, curtain tracks are used to hand curtains that have a heading tape – such as pinch and pencil pleat curtains. The heading tape will have space for the hooks – which then in turn are attached to the track. Curtain tracks are generally covered by the curtain header once attached – meaning they offer a clean and tidy look. Depending on whether you have chosen a glide track or corded track you will then pull your curtains on and off using a cord or gliding by hand.
The first step is to install the curtain track itself – which you can do yourself following our handy guide on installing curtain tracks. The next steps will differ based on your chosen curtain track – if you are installing gliders, we have a handy step-by-step guide you can follow, but it is actually pretty simple once you have the track installed. Additionally, you will need to install the curtain hooks which allow you to attach the curtains to the track, which you can find our instructions for here. Once your track is on the wall, your gliders are attached and you have installed your curtain hooks all there is left to do is hang the curtains – which is pretty simple.
