How to fit venetian blinds
Learning how to fit Venetian blinds may seem tricky at first. Luckily, fitting Venetian blinds is as simple as gathering your tools, fixing the brackets and attaching the blinds to the brackets. By following our instructions, you’ll know how to fit Venetian blinds in no time.
Fitting Venetian blinds should be a relatively easy job, even for an amateur do-it-yourself enthusiast. The trick in knowing how to fit Venetian blinds lies in three things, namely: reading the instructions manual that comes with the blinds in their original packaging; keeping the tools and materials necessary within easy reach; and using your common sense when installing these window treatments.
Installing these blinds can take anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes depending on your skill level. Be sure that young children are kept away from the work area, since sharp objects, such as drills and anchors, could be hazardous. Be sure to work on a sober mind (i.e., no alcohol) to reduce the risks of accidents, too.
Step 1: Gather Tools & Materials
Start by gathering the tools and materials of the DIY project. Check that these are working properly since your success and safety in installing the Venetian blinds will depend on the reliability of the tools. For example, the drill bits and cordless drill should be working properly lest these become a source for injuries.
- Venetian blinds and their accompanying hardware in the original packaging
- Ladder
- Pencil
- Cordless drill
- Drill bit
- Anchors
- Hammer
- Level
Many of these tools should be in your garage or shed so it should be of little issue.
Step 2: Install The Bracket
The installation proper starts when you have the Venetian blinds and the tools on hand. Just follow these relatively simple steps.
- Place the ladder so that it is adjacent to the window where the blinds will be installed.
- Climb up the ladder. Place the support bracket on the upper inside right corner of the window frame while ensuring that its support opening faces your front. Check that the bracket is level by using the level; the bubble should be in the centre.
- Indicate the placement of the wall screws that will secure the support bracket to the window frame. To do this, insert the tip of the pencil into the holes and mark the spot with the lead. Set the bracket aside.
- Place a drill bit into the battery-powered drill. Just follow the pencil marks to drill the holes.
- Fit an anchor - use the pointed end - into each hole before gently hammering into place.
- Replace the drill bit with a screwdriver bit. Retrieve the bracket, line up the holes over each of the anchors, and hold the support bracket in one of your hands. Using your free hand, insert the screws into the anchors, tighten them, and check that the bracket is in place; use a power driver to tighten the screws.
- Affix the left-side bracket support. Check that it is level with the right-side support.
- Check the hinged openings by raising them; if these are closed, then they are working properly.
Step 3: Learn How to Hang and Attach the Blinds
With the support bracket in place, hanging the Venetian blinds comes next.
- Check that the Venetian blinds are working properly by pulling down on the cord. The blinds' slats should be nesting against each other while also resting against the topmost part of the support bar.
- Climb up the ladder. Ask your assistant to hand the blinds over to you; you may also carry the blind with you.
- Position the blinds' support bar, slide it into the open bracket support, and then close the hinged openings. Check that the support bar is securely in place, as this will indicate you’ve properly attached the blinds to the window.
Install centre supports at the top of the window frame in case of Venetian blinds placed on double windows. This way, the shades will not sag in the middle, thus, preserving their form and function. Congrats - you’ve learned how to attach blinds and install them with ease.
