Deciding on a new pair of window blinds for your home can be tough. With so many options ranging in style, colour, and fabric, it can be hard to know where to begin. Across roller blinds, roman blinds, venetian blinds, vertical blinds, and more, Terrys offer a wide range of window blinds and curtains that'll spruce up your home instantly.
To help you decide which of our window blinds are for you, our handy blinds buying guides should help you to narrow down the best fit for your home.
Measuring window blinds needn't be a daunting task. Depending on the style of blind you choose and the effect you're looking for from your blind, there are different ways to approach measurement.
Using our handy measuring guides, you'll be able to find the right technique for your blind, as we have video tutorials covering roman, roller, vertical and venetian blinds.
Should you prefer a blackout blind, you'll need to decide whether you require a total blackout effect. If you do, the blind will need to be fitted outside of the window recess to ensure the blackout lining is fully obscuring the window - so you'll need to measure the length and width of the wall surrounding the window recess. If you'd prefer the blind to sit within the recess, measure the length and width of the window including the frame - but do be prepared for a small amount of light to seep through the gaps between the edge of the blind and the recess.
Follow the same principle when it comes to measuring for roller blinds, vertical blinds, and venetian blinds - decide whether you'd prefer the blind hung within the window recess or outside of it and note down the width and length necessary to cover the window.
When it comes to deciding what type of window blinds are best for your bedroom, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind, namely: privacy, light, and your interior design aesthetic. Should you be overlooked by neighbours and need more privacy in your space, choosing a venetian, wooden, or vertical blind will allow you to feel less observed whilst still allowing light into the room. If you're struggling to sleep through early sunrises or dealing with bright street lights late at night, try a blackout blind for the bedroom. Roman and roller blinds are styled with the greatest range of fabric, colour, and texture to choose from. Should you want to add a classic floral Roman blind to a master bedroom or a bright roller blind in a child's bedroom - you'll find the perfect bedroom blind in our stunning collection.
The best way to clean fabric blinds varies according to each individual product. For instance, a velvet Roman blind will likely need to be cleaned very differently from a blackout roller blind. As there isn't one rule for how to clean cloth window blinds, we'd advise that you always check the label or cleaning instructions the blind came with to ensure you're not risking any shrinkage, colour running, or other damage to the material.
It's fairly easy to clean blinds without taking them down as long as you stay on top of general maintenance. A weekly dust or wipe down with a microfiber cloth will ensure that any excess dust and dirt doesn't build up on your window blinds, preventing any mould or mildew from forming. Should you have one, running a handheld hoover over your blind (using the fabric attachment) will also work well. The longer you leave blinds without cleaning them, the more likely it becomes that you'll have to take them down to properly tackle dirt and dust.
