Jae Vinson is a DIY and decorating blogger, writing about her creative projects on her blog, Design OCD, since 2011. Jae loves chronicling her adventures, everything from home improvements and DIY projects to travelling and fine dining. Her blog started after she was compelled to transform her living room to somewhere that really made her happy. Since then she learnt a few tricks of the trade and got hooked on decorating and DIY. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Jae Vinson.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I love color and my style leans towards transitional. I like the mix of traditional and more modern pieces together. I find pieces I appreciate in every style but I do like a more clean streamlined look.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Jump right in! When I get inspired, I just go for it, I do not have a specific process that I follow. I think about what the objective is and then figure out ways to achieve it.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
My mother. She is amazing. When she wanted bookshelves and a desk in in a room and couldn’t afford to hire a carpenter, she created built-ins herself. More recently, she just installed bamboo flooring in most of her house, all by herself!
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I look everywhere for inspiration, magazines, online, stores, markets, airports, I mean you can be inspired by the smallest thing you see anywhere you are. It just has to spark an idea that moves you to action.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
Well I do not have an official career in design, my day job is in information technology. I enjoy the creative process and love to share things so I blog about my projects and ideas. This has opened many opportunities, others have sought me out to help them with design dilemmas in their homes. If you enjoy doing something, do more of it!
