Khristine Holterman is the founder of Revuu, a user-generated product review portal for interior design appliances and products. With a background in nutrition, she never imagined she’d become an appliance critic but three home renovations ultimately led to the creation of Revuu. Her experience taught her that information about refrigerators, chairs and even door knobs was often scarce or biased, so she decided to help people locate the honest and reliable information they needed. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Khristine Holterman.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
Eclectic. I love mixing antiques with modern pieces and showcasing modern, abstract art within a classical, older home.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I spend time looking through images and showrooms and then I go for a run. My thoughts seem to flow most freely when I am moving! Remembering all those great ideas after a run is the challenge!
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
Vanessa Bell at Omega Lighting Design in Berkeley, CA. I’m a bit obsessed with light fixtures and she designs and builds the most original and cool fixtures. She had some fabulous ideas for lighting in my projects that have truly made the rooms absolute stand-outs. Once you’ve seen the impact an amazing light fixture can have on a room it is easy to understand the importance of a lighting designer.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
Travel is foremost. I am always inspired by natural and man-made beauty in far-flung locations. Decorator showhouses are also inspirational. I love to see the extremes some designers will take and then translate these into real-life rooms.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
My website was born of serial remodeling and redecorating. I am passionate about being informed and knowledgeable when purchasing home products and I decided to create a forum for like-minded remodelers, designers, builders and homeowners. Beauty and functionality should not be mutually exclusive. Following in my footsteps? I suggest a lot of patience and a great contractor!
