1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
The Incy design aesthetic is classic with a twist. We like to take classic designs such as the traditional ‘hospital bed’ and put our own twist on them whether it be colour pops or metallic finishes.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
When we start the design process it generally involves a brain storm with the team – what products will we launch, what is the style, etc. We then break off and do research whether that be Pinterest, magazines, related products, etc.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
We did two collaborations last year with super talented people. The first collaboration was with the super cool linen company Kip & Co. I was in awe of their attention to detail and wild ideas, nothing was out of bounds. The other collaboration was with stylist/designer Megan Morton who blew me away with her business savvy.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
Anything at all can inspire me. The coloured Smeg fridges inspired our colour pop beds/cots whilst my watch was the inspiration behind our metallic collection. The flooring in our house we are building is the inspiration behind our next collection.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
My son needing to move into his first ‘big boy bed’ and a lack of anything in the market lead to me making the big change from corporate marketing to furniture design/retail/wholesale. I had absolutely no experience with design, retail, wholesale, logistics, etc but what I lacked in experience I made up for in enthusiasm. The main piece of advice I would give is to just do it, whilst also making sure you have realistic expectations.
