1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
Calm, timeless and elegant. A mixture of contemporary and traditional in equal measure.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I take time to understand my client and the building. In doing this I can interpret their brief and relate it to the building and the space within. I draw most inspiration for a project from the building and its surroundings. Time within the space is crucial to me.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
I admire people who don’t stop at “that’ll do” but strive to find the right solution, finish, piece of furniture or fabric and if they can’t find it then design it. I admire true craftsmanship, quality and honesty in design.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I am inspired greatly by the natural environment surrounding each property. To draw on the colours and textures found creates fluidity between the interior and exterior, effortlessly grounding and providing provenance to the property.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
I received a BA Hons in Printed and woven textiles 14 years ago and am obsessed with fabrics and surface finishes. An intuitive love of buildings, architecture and design ensured I blended all these passions together to pursue a career in interior design. I have worked for a fabric silk mill, Designers Guild and a London based Interior Design Company before launching Rendall & Wright with my business partner Helen in 2006. I believe if you have an appetite for any particular career whether design based or otherwise, it’s important to strive for it. To go to work and love what I do is pure pleasure, a thrilled client is the icing on the cake!
