Lynn Goode is the founder of Lynn Goode Vintage Furniture + Decorative Arts, based in Houston, Texas. Lynn has a strong background in art history, having her own gallery in the late 1980’s. In 2010 she established her current firm, after discovering Houston’s untapped resource of mid-century furniture, from designers such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Charlotte Perriand, George Nakashima and Milo Baughman. 1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I have an adventurous style. I’m not afraid of bold colours or of mixing styles and periods.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I let the project speak for itself – each project is so uniquely different and I seldom repeat a design process.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
Marlys Tokerud ASID – she never compromises and she encouraged me to buy fine furniture pieces that are timeless in any setting. For example a J. Robert Scott console table in silver leaf. Also Dillon Kyle, a Houston architect – my husband and I designed a house with him that is yet to be built. Dillon listened and took our ideas and spun magic. He is one of the most creative individuals I’ve encountered.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
1stDibs is always a good start! But mainly I like to look for fabrics and enjoy going to paint stores for colour ideas.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
Hard work and dedication and the second part of that, hard work and dedication!
