1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
For years I was only inspired to do color, creating whimsical designs in rich jewel tones. But about two years ago I became obsessed with playful graphic black and white pen and inks, and now I can’t stop.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I create a step at a time. In other words, I might do the outline of a new design, and then stop and let it sit for a few hours or days until it calls me back and tells me what’s next. I do a little at a time this way, so each design takes days to weeks.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
Mark Rosenbaum of Rosetree Glass Studio in New Orleans is my mentor. He is one of the most talented and hard working artists I know. I had heard of him and admired his work even before I met him at a show. He not only makes gorgeous glass art, he runs an online retail business, a wholesale business and has a beautiful gallery as well. He’s smart and he’s done it all. I call him often for advice and support.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
Music always helps, because it loosens me up and makes me happy. But the thing that helps the most is looking at other art, going to a museum, looking at art books or even exploring other artists work on Instagram or online.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
I have reinvented myself many times, changing my medium, product line and even my creative style. I think it’s really important to stay open to new ideas and inspiration, Never hesitate to try new things. It When your art becomes your work, it can lose the joy that made you want to make it your career. Never stop playing – it will breathe new life into your art and your business.
