Sam Osborne is a multi-disciplined designer of bespoke illustrations, surface patterns and digital art working from her studio in Oxfordshire. Sam creates designs that are bold and set in a world of fun and imaginative colour. She also creates her own products, including cards, homewares, calendars and more - some of which are currently available on the high street. She is also heavily influenced by mid-century ceramics, colourful 1960s designs and classic sci-fi movies. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Sam Osborne.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I describe myself as a brightly coloured designer nerd, which pretty much covers everything! I love colour, shape and pattern and enjoying experimenting with them all in my design and illustration work.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I usually start with some research, geeking out on getting to know a new subject or topic. Then some loose sketches in pen or markers before translating them in the computer in a final composition.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
Wow, so many. I've been very lucky to have worked with some amazing graphic designers and creative directors and of course my Dad, who runs his own creative business and has done so since I was very little, has been a huge influence on me and my entrepreneurial spirit!
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
Getting away from the computer is so important. I love galleries and museums but the best thing is a sunny day, the countryside, my trusty yellow bicycle and space to think.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
In 2011 I left my job at as a senior graphic designer to get back to my art and illustration roots within my own business. It's taken a lot of hard work, late nights and a few swear words to get where I am now, but's it's great fun!
