1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I employ a decidedly feminine aesthetic with lush watercolors and delicate quill line. I love painting the figure and especially enjoy conveying fabrics and textures.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I work closely with the client to ensure the concept is on point and then I go forward without doing pencil sketches. Usually clients are familiar with my work and can point out pieces on my site they respond to for style.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
I've had the honor to work with a range of wonderful clients both big and small. I especially enjoy working with art directors and editors that have a good eye and are creative themselves. They appreciate and understand the artistic process and therefore can provide the right kind of feedback. I especially enjoyed working with Charlotte Strick who art directed me last year as I illustrated the Paris Review.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I look for inspiration everywhere from the street, to my family, to pinterest, magazines and books. I sometimes get an idea in mind and search for reference or shoot photographs of my own.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
I don't think there's a straight line to reaching your goals in the arts. I feel that it's an ever shifting industry. My advice is work hard, do tons of work and find your niche in the marketplace.
