Venture Kay is the founder of My Little Venture, where she creates hand painted designs for whimsical wallpapers, fabrics and accessories. Venture is heavily inspired by childhood memories, nostalgia for Paris and her new experiences working in London. She draws and paints each of her designs by hand then creates digital copies to create repeat patterns. She has five years of trainings in interior design, art and textile design, and has worked with Bonpoint and de Gournay. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Venture Kay.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
My work is dedicated to little ones. My style is full of floating, poetic and light elements such as hot air balloons, kites and birds. I love using pastel tones which produce a soft and delicate result.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Like a play in the theatre, I have lots of different characters, elements and scenes in mind. I try to put these onto paper with my pencils first and then using watercolours. All my designs tell a story.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
I have admired every interior designer that I have worked with so far and I always think of them as well as all the little ones I know when creating new designs. I want my wallpapers and fabrics to be inspiring for them to create amazing and unique spaces for babies and children. It is truly fascinating to see how they put things together introducing different colours, textures, pieces of furniture and art.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
My main inspiration comes from my childhood memories. I grew up near Paris in Versailles and got to spend my holidays in beautiful and striking places like Provence.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
It was not always easy but I am glad I decided to make the jump and set up My Little Venture in 2012. Anyone who wishes to create textiles and wallpapers should just go for it and not fear mistakes or obstacles. Everyone has something special and unique to express!
