Interiors Trends Predictions

As we enter a New Year, predictions about the interior design trends set to dominate the year abound! Industrialism and ultra-minimalism are on their way out - but what’s going to be in? Following extensive market research, our design experts at Terrys have come together to choose their top five trends for the year ahead.

Comprising new colours, textiles and aesthetics into your existing spaces - without breaking the bank - we’ve even thrown in some product recommendations and styling tips.

Gareth Coxall, the Marketing and Creative Director at Terrys, commented: “2024 is going to be all about going back to nature - green shades, natural textures, organic shapes and an emphasis on creating warm, cosy spaces will dominate the next 12 months. We’re not advocating for a full home renovation though - create subtle nods to 2024’s top trends throughout the home by adding a cushion to your couch, re-energising your bedroom with a tactile bedspread, or even investing in a solid wood armchair to curl up in.”

Retro Vibes

Create a home full of personality and charm by channelling the 70s aesthetic. Dark woods, lacquered surfaces, shaggy faux fur rugs and low seating all lend spaces a retro vibe reminiscent of that famously free-spirited, optimistic era.

The Odisha Chair in Buffalo leather, featuring an acacia wooden base and mesh seat, makes a luxury addition to any space. With an aesthetic clearly inspired by mid-century modern design, this sleek piece strips back excess detail, celebrating the raw materials from which it was crafted, and its retro design heritage.

For a more affordable 70s fix, consider hanging curtains in doorways, as room dividers and in place of kitchen cabinets, to create a more laid-back, open atmosphere throughout the home. Choose geometric, brightly-coloured prints like the aptly-titled Reno Retro curtain fabric to bring the groovy vibes back in 2024.

Warm Tones

With Pantone crowning Peach Fuzz the colour of 2024, shades which sit anywhere in the vicinity of peach on the colour spectrum are welcome. Choose warm-toned neutrals like ochre, chocolate, oatmeal, burgundy, tan, burnt orange and cream to create an inviting, cosy home. Should you prefer not to start the year up to your elbows in emulsion, add pops of colour through your accessories instead.

A collection of warm-toned scatter cushions can transform a bare, uninviting couch into a soothing snug. Earthy, natural tones instantly engender calm, relaxed spaces - long gone are the clinical whites and harsh greys of the last few years. Look no further than Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen’s terracotta offering to warm up your space instantly.

Scandi Chic

Think boucle, sheepskin, leather, rattan and wood. The Scandinavian aesthetic is coming into its own in 2024, with a renewed focus on incorporating organic, tactile materials into our homes. Make spaces appealing and comfortable by combining several different textures, within a pared-back colour palette.

Light-toned wood and natural stone make a tranquil backdrop for soft, chic fabric and accessories. Turn your bedroom into a Scandinavian design haven with Catherine Lansfield's Cosy Boucle Bedding Set. The softly textured cream boucle complements any existing decor - nailing the Scandi vibe and creating a cosy hideaway at once, while nailing the interior design trend.

Biophilic Design

Biophilic design is an interior design trend and aesthetic inspired by nature and sustainability. Incorporate natural light and leafy plants into a colour scheme reminiscent of the great outdoors to satisfy the back-to-nature yearning it’s all too easy to feel, cooped up over the winter months. To encourage your subconscious to return to a circadian rhythm, celebrate natural light by hanging sheer voile curtains to let the sunrise wake you and sunset soothe you - you might have to put your phone down, though.

Every shade of green goes - whether that’s a mossy-hued throw over the back of your favourite armchair, or a set of emerald towels for the bathroom. Include homeware crafted from natural materials like clay, wood, stone and cork to evoke the British wilderness, without having to actually contend with the weather. As Biophilia has been proven to boost wellbeing and cognitive function, going green makes a lot of sense in 2024.

Curvaceousness

Straight lines, be gone! Scalloped motifs, soft shapes and curved edges are the name of the game this year. Whether you celebrate the curve through printed textiles, a collection of bud vases or a round coffee table, say no to 90 degree angles in 2024! For the more ambitious trendsetter, interior arches have made quite the comeback in recent months. Consider getting the plasterboard out to soften any harsh doorways and encourage a more organic feel throughout the home.

However you want to bring the outdoors in or capture any of the interior design trends of 2024, create a soothing space with Terrys.
