1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I often describe my style as “eclectic boho glam”. I’m a maximalist at heart and love how the right mix of colour and pattern as well as a mix of styles from different eras really bring a room to life. Gold and Brass adds a glamorous touch and works beautifully with so many colours.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Planning for me is key. Giving consideration to things like light, space and how the room will be used is the first step. I then collect inspiration and try to see how I can get the right look within my budget. I will often create moodboards to ensure that individual items come together to create a whole with the right synergy and mood that reflects my personal vision.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
There are so many creative bloggers and designers that inspire me every day. Without the blogging community and my readers that continuously encourage and support me, I doubt I’d still be blogging now. It’s wonderful to virtually surround yourself with like-minded people, it gives you so much energy and enthusiasm. It’s a fantastic community and one which I’ve made some amazing friendships.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
Travel, nature and just opening myself up to new experiences, taking note of colour and mood and relaxing into the moment wherever I am. I am always more inspired after giving myself the time to simply be. Of course, Pinterest, Interior magazines and other blogs also get my creative juices flowing!
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
Patience, determination and unapologetically staying true to my own style. There are no simple routes to blogging success and recognition. You have to figure out your USP for yourself, make sure your uniqueness shines through and keep at it consistently. And ensure you are creating something of value for your readers. Always ask yourself why someone should read your blog post, what insights will someone gain? I think it’s important to give back, it makes for a much more fulfilling and reciprocal relationship between you and your audience.
