Marion Labbez is a designer-maker, who is passionate about decorative arts and craftsmanship, offering hand-crafted glass finishes made in London. Marion actually grew up in Paris and studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, France. She decided to live and work in London because of its vibrant design and art scene, as well as her love of British floral wallpapers. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Marion Labbez.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
A measured balance of traditional crafts and contemporary free-hand feel in the design.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Firstly I establish with my clients what they needs and learn about their lifestyle. Beside I am constantly creating visual notes and writing, that is my bank of ideas from which I can pick.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
I worked for Helen Amy Murray, who is a very inspiring woman, designer and entrepreneur. She established her unique craft and brand with talent, consistency and immense attention to detail. She also remains very kind whistle running a successful business.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I have some major periods in Arts that always inspire me: Art Deco, Ming dynasty, XIXth century Japanese prints... But more than anything, I am inspired by my everyday urban life, full of people, fabric, prints and adverts.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
I have freelanced for a while before starting my own business. That's how I learn to understand a client, a brief, and how I developed interpersonal skills which are essential when you offer a bespoke service. My advice: being creative is very important, but not enough. Hard work and perseverance is key.
