On the site Nicole and Debbie share their work and design advice on all things home decor, event planning, weddings and lifestyle. Nicole found the blog in 2012 to share the design process behind her business Nicole White Designs Inc. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Nicole White.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I’m addicted to bold colors and a clean contemporary style, so my designs will often reflect that. Clients often seek me out specifically for that daring approach to color to save them from a world of beige on beige. I’m also drawn to textures (grasscloth wallpaper, burlap fabrics) and patterns (herringbone, houndstooth, chevron) anything that will add some dimension, layers and interest to a space.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Well, the Jamaican in me first listens to some Bob Marley music to clear my thoughts. Then to truly understand the psychology of the client’s space, I pay attention to how they interact with their home, their surroundings during our consultation. I also have them complete a detailed questionnaire to understand both their basic needs for the space, to their most over-the-top wishes and try to find a balance.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
The husband and wife team of Titan Décor (Hernando and Margarita) the creative geniuses of my drapery workroom. They are high school sweethearts from Colombia who raised two children in Miami by surviving on their sheer talent to create stunning pieces of drapery and upholstered pieces. Hernando has never met a problem on an installation that he couldn’t solve. I believe he has a tool stashed in his van to fix anything, and I mean anything.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I spend a lot of time scouring fabric stores for inspiration. I’ve built entire rooms just from a glimpse of a piece of fabric. I’m a foodie at heart and often find inspiration at restaurants. I also search for inspiration on sites like Houzz, Pinterest, DomaineHome and Lonny magazines to stay abreast of trends. I’m also inspired by the whimsical, playfulness of nurseries (I have a toddler) and look for inspiration in well-designed children’s spaces to add some playfulness to adult spaces.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
An unwillingness to give up. I’m not a classically trained designer (my degree is in journalism) but I had a burning passion to create beautiful spaces and have simply worked hard to learn both the gritty and beautiful sides of the business. My advice: Look within to make your own mark in this field and spend less time trying to mimic the work of others. Also treat your clients as your most prized treasures, and they’ll become your biggest cheerleaders and supporters.
